Surfing and Yoga in Costa Rica at the BVC
What is the BVC?
Does surfing and Yoga in Costa Rica interest you? The Buena Vibra Collective is the perfect retreat for Surfers and Yogi’s alike. There is a surf club for kids, which is a success in educating children to respect the ocean and its surprises that live in the sea.
“They learn about the ocean’s tides and how to deal with rips and how to watch out for stingrays. But they also learn how to ride the wave. The first time you stand up on a wave is a time you never forget.”
The Buena Vibra Collective has two Yoga Shala’s (full class schedule here), outdoor showers to rinse off the sand and salt from the nearby sea.
It’s understandable why Nosara is the Wellness capital of Costa Rica. Since 2011, Playa Guiones has coastal restoration projects and remains active with environmental conservation and protection mandates. The Buena Vibra Collective has been involved pretty much from the start. The importance of this initiative is apparent.
The BVC has Many Options for every Traveller
There comes a time when you are traveling, and different hotels serve many purposes. It’s nice to have a variety of options. You might start out wanting an economy suite then shift over to a luxury suite. Whether you are a solo traveler, family, or a large group, the Buena Vibra Collective (BVC) gives you many options—all with A/C, all with a home vibe. It’s the kind of place that gives you a strong sense of community.
Choose your Casa—little Beach Houses
The Casas sleep up to five people or one guest. There is a pool for relaxing near the Casas, and it’s an excellent place to cool off with the palms sheltering it from the sun. Adjacent to the refreshing pool is the yoga Shala and the Naked Foods Café, where the best Vegetarian eats are served in Nosara.
Poolside Casa Concha (with A/C)– Sleeps Six: two bedrooms/one bath 600 sqft casitas with kitchen at Garden level. Featuring a private outdoor patio with hammocks and sitting area. The master bedroom has a queen bed and a sitting area. The guest room has one double bed, one bunk bed, and a sitting area.
Poolside Casa Tortuga (with A/C)– Sleeps 5: one bedroom, one bath, 500 sqft casitas with kitchen at garden level. Private outdoor patio with shower, hammocks, and sitting area. Poolside Cabino Arco Iris (A/C) Sleeps 4: 250 sqft garden level studio with one bunk and one double bed. It is equipped with a small fridge and desk.
There are a few more casitas that are great for couples. Check out all the Casitas here.
Stellar Suites with a View
Six spacious Beachfront suites are facing the ocean and are close to the beach as one will get in Nosara. Thanks to its environment protected refuge. Each of these 450 sqft custom Suites is equipped with a large private patio with a hammock and a sofa. For your sleeping comfort, there are new, quiet air conditioners and a ceiling fan for those who prefer to acclimatize. Each room has luxurious bedding with high-quality linens (king bed and day bed), a small fridge, and a minibar with complimentary organic, raw delicacies. These rooms also have low EMFs that are supplied with adapters.
We stayed in the Suite #6, which at night the stairway leading up to our space had two soothing woven sconce lighting fixtures. The king-size bed was very comfortable, and the rope suspended day bed was charming— a great place to read. To embrace its waterfront location, the ceiling to floor window and thick sliding doors, which led onto a balcony, gave this sense of security.
The balcony is like a room of its own equipped with a hammock, sofa, and coffee table. There is more! The balconies have stairs that lead to the rooftop — the perfect place to meditate or look at the night sky.
All the suites overlook the wonderfully curated garden. I was fortunate enough to spot a Ylang-Ylang flower (pronounced Lang-Lang), a tree that only blossoms twice a year. I stood around to appreciate the captivating fragrance and understood why it was chosen as the key ingredient of Chanelº5 perfume. It’s no wonder why many shampoos are scented with it too.
A Place to Practice Yoga that will help you Surf
In front of the garden stands the immaculate yoga shala that holds several daily classes. And, did I mention that you also get unlimited yoga included in your stay?! It was a dream come true to have such an inspiring practice space for me, accessible at any time of day or night!
The complex has a private path that leads to the beach. It is like walking through your playhouse where one can’t help but be childish and giddy. Playa Guiones is not just any beach but a renowned World’s top Surf break.
“Being out in the line-up is pure medicine. Over the years, we have heard many souls comment how much they love to paddle out past the line-up and simply be: watch the sunset, float around, dive down into the abyss….. The journey to the outside can be arduous: full of white water chaos and seemingly endless duck-dives. If you have enough stamina to persevere, and enough skill under your belt to break-through the noise, the reward is priceless ?
Enjoy the Ritual of Watching Surfers at Sunset
Nightfall comes early in Costa Rica, and the BVC is as close to the beach as possible, it is easy to catch the sunset. A place where everyone gathers religiously, every day in awe. If you had too much sun, Costa Rica has a lot of Aloe Vera to help you heal too!
When taking the path to the beach, I recommend sauntering admiring the new forest of the restoration project. Most of Nosara beach and the Guanacaste coastline went through a significant deforestation process and which in turn led to an agricultural pasture. Now Nosara is ecologically friendly and is an exemplary model for other tourist spots to follow.
The Buena Vibra Collective is an excellent place for yoga retreats, family vacations, or going solo. The staff will greet you with superb hospitality. As a result, you will want to extend your stay. Nosara has an airport; however, the rates are much lower if you fly into Liberia International. Enjoy Nosara and tell them BestKeptMontreal sent you!

If you are considering going to Costa Rica, I recommend booking a car through a trusted car rental place like National. Here are some good reasons to rent. Costa Rica is also a good place to eat bananas, learn about their unusual uses.
