Some doors are better left closed. Naturally, we’re opening them.

01 / THE IMMERSIVE SPECTACLE

SPECTRE — When the Ghosts Take Over Gare Dalhousie

A haunted railway station. Electronic beats. Circus performers emerging from the shadows. For one night only, Cirque Éloize and GABA Collective take over historic Gare Dalhousie with SPECTRE, an immersive Halloween experience where the line between the living and the supernatural gets delightfully blurry.

Behind the decks, Laurence Matte, Damacadam, Lola Scott, Naë and Pelo keep the dance floor moving. Meanwhile, aerialists, contortionists and hula-hoop artists appear among the crowd as Isotone’s 360-degree projections envelop the station. It’s a fascinating combination of circus heritage, underground electronic culture and architectural history. And frankly, a former railway station makes a far more interesting Halloween setting than another nightclub dressed up with plastic cobwebs.

Why it’s on our radar: If ghosts knew how to throw a party, they’d probably hire Cirque Éloize.

SPECTRE / GARE DALHOUSIE - Cirque Eloize

Date: Saturday, October 31, 2026
Time: 8 PM–3 AM
Location: Gare Dalhousie, 417 Rue Berri, Old Montreal
Tickets: SPECTRE — Official Tickets — from $35; early-entry conditions apply.

02 / THE SECRETIVE MASQUERADE

Eyes Wide Shut — A Night of Mystery at Marcus

Some invitations should come with a warning: wear a mask and reveal absolutely nothing.

Inspired by the enigmatic world of Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, Marcus at the Four Seasons Hotel Montréal invites guests into a glamorous black-and-white masquerade where anonymity is part of the dress code. Expect beautifully disguised strangers, an elegant atmosphere and an evening where dinner might lead to something rather intriguing. Chef Jason Morris adds a theatrical touch to the occasion, including an exclusive Black Velvet dessert.

It’s the kind of Halloween gathering where the costumes are sophisticated, the cocktails are carefully considered, and nobody seems particularly interested in revealing their identity. Recognizing your ex across the room? Entirely optional.

Why it’s on our radar: Halloween for those who prefer their darkness served with elegance, excellent food and a little cinematic intrigue.

EYES WIDE SHUT / MARCUS - Best Kept MTL

Date: Thursday, October 29, 2026

Location: Marcus, Four Seasons Hotel, 1440 Rue de la Montagne

03 / THE CULT HORROR AFTERPARTY

Bimbo Cult Classic — Scream Queens Take Over the Warehouse

A Halloween party inside a film studio warehouse. Drag royalty. Cult horror references. And a crowd that probably spent more time planning its costume than most people spend planning a wedding. Bimbo Cult Classic is taking over Studio Notre-Dame for a night inspired by the wonderfully excessive world of cult cinema.

Leading the festivities are TS Madison, Daya Betty and Flesh, alongside a lineup of DJs including PSI, Luis Fernando, Sydney Sarayeva and Fieldn0te. The concept borrows from the visual language of classic horror films, with a particularly queer, camp and fashion-conscious twist. Think scream queens, sinister characters, outrageous costumes and the sort of theatrical personalities who could easily steal the spotlight from the actual performers.

What makes Bimbo interesting isn’t simply its Halloween theme. It’s the intersection of queer nightlife, pop culture and underground creative expression. Montreal’s queer scene has always understood something that conventional nightlife occasionally forgets: a party can be a performance in itself. And when the setting is a film studio, why not behave as though you’re starring in your own horror movie? Just try not to be the first character killed off.

Why it’s on our radar: A gloriously unconventional celebration of queer culture, cult cinema and creative excess. Definitely not your average Halloween costume party.

BIMBO CULT CLASSIC - Best Kept MTL

Date: Friday, October 30, 2026
Time: 10 PM–5 AM
Location: Studio Notre-Dame, 500 Rue Alphonse-D.-Roy, Montreal
Tickets: Bimbo Cult Classic — Official Tickets — from approximately $69.

04 / THE 90s HALLOWEEN THROWBACK

90s Dance Party Halloween — Spice Girls, Drag Queens & Pure Nostalgia

Remember when the Spice Girls ruled the world, MTV actually played music, and everyone owned at least one questionable outfit? Well, dust off those platform shoes. The 90s are calling.

For its third Halloween edition, SUPER TASTE takes over Ausgang Plaza with a nostalgic mix of 90s pop, R&B, eurodance and grunge. The evening’s highlight? A special drag tribute celebrating the Spice Girls’ 30th anniversary, featuring Kiara, Peach, Tracy Trash, LaDrag On-Fly and Gisèle Lullaby. Think oversized denim, neon windbreakers, pop princesses and enough throwback anthems to make you forget what decade we’re living in.

Why it’s on our radar: A playful collision of 90s nostalgia, Montreal drag culture and dance-floor classics. Come for the Spice Girls, stay for the eurodance.

90s Dance Party Halloween / SUPER TASTE - Best Kept MTL

Location: Ausgang Plaza, 6524 Rue Saint-Hubert, Montreal

Dress Code: 90s-inspired costumes encouraged.

05 / THE HAUNTED ADVENTURE

Lune Noire — A Forgotten Wedding on the Canals

A forgotten wedding. A darkened canal. And a story that probably doesn’t end with happily ever after. At Parc Jean-Drapeau, Lune Noire: La Noce des Canaux transforms the Jardins des Floralies into a mysterious nighttime destination. Climb aboard a small pontoon and travel through the canals as an eerie tale of a forgotten wedding unfolds, revealing its secrets one clue at a time.

The approximately 40-minute experience combines atmospheric storytelling with the unusual pleasure of exploring Montreal’s island landscape after dark. What makes this one particularly interesting is its setting. There’s something naturally cinematic about drifting through quiet canals at night, especially when the story involves a wedding that apparently didn’t go according to plan. A romantic Halloween date? Perhaps. Assuming nobody disappears into the water.

Why it’s on our radar: An unexpectedly poetic experience for couples, curious explorers and anyone seeking a little mystery without a dance floor.

LUNE NOIRE / PARC JEAN-DRAPEAU - Best Kept MTL

Dates: Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30, 2026
Time: Evening departures from 6 PM; select your session
Location: Jardins des Floralies, Parc Jean-Drapeau, Île Notre-Dame
Tickets: Lune Noire — Event & Ticket Information — $30.75 for ages 14+; select an available departure.

06 / THE DARK CABARET

Black Mass — Cirque de Boudoir’s Darkest Celebration

Twenty years of beautiful madness deserve a rather wicked anniversary. Montreal’s provocative Cirque de Boudoir celebrates its twentieth anniversary with Black Mass, an extravagant Halloween spectacle where underground nightlife meets theatrical fantasy. Expect electronic music, circus and fire performances, go-go dancers, psychedelic visuals and a crowd that takes costume creativity very seriously.

The setting adds another layer to the experience. Théâtre Paradoxe, a former church, provides a rather unconventional backdrop for a night dedicated to theatrical excess. Sacred architecture, elaborate costumes and a dance floor full of beautifully strange characters. Only in Montreal could this combination feel so perfectly appropriate.

Cirque de Boudoir has built its reputation around elaborate productions that blur the boundaries between performance art, fetish-inspired fashion and electronic nightlife. Black Mass seems determined to push that aesthetic even further. It’s not necessarily the evening for anyone hoping to blend into the background. Then again, why would you?

Why it’s on our radar: A theatrical, provocative celebration for adults who believe Halloween should be anything but ordinary.

BLACK MASS / CIRQUE DE BOUDOIR - Best Kept MTL

Date: Saturday, October 31, 2026
Time: 9 PM–4 AM; last entry at 2 AM
Location: Théâtre Paradoxe, 5959 Boulevard Monk
Tickets: Black Mass Halloween 2026 — Official Tickets — admission varies by ticket category; 18+.

07 / THE GOTHIC MASTERPIECE

Nosferatu in Concert — A Century-Old Nightmare Comes Alive

Before horror became a franchise, there was Count Orlok. And frankly, he’s aged rather well. The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal presents F. W. Murnau’s legendary 1922 silent film Nosferatu, accompanied by live organ improvisation from Jason Roberts.

Inside the Maison symphonique, the magnificent Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique provides the soundtrack to one of cinema’s most haunting masterpieces. There’s something special about experiencing a silent film with live musical accompaniment. Every shadow, every unsettling movement and every appearance of Count Orlok takes on a different intensity when the music is being created in the moment.

No prerecorded score. No predictable jump scares. Just expressionist cinema, gothic atmosphere and an extraordinary instrument capable of making your entire body vibrate. And for anyone who appreciates the history of horror, Nosferatu remains essential viewing. More than a century later, its imagery continues to influence filmmakers, photographers and visual artists. Some monsters never go out of style.

Why it’s on our radar: A sophisticated Halloween experience for cinephiles, classical music enthusiasts and vampires with impeccable cultural taste.

NOSFERATU IN CONCERT - Best Kept MTL

Date: Thursday, October 29, 2026
Time: 7:30 PM; pre-show at 6:30 PM
Location: Maison symphonique, 1600 Rue Saint-Urbain

08 / THE HALLOWEEN BAR CRAWL

The Fright Crawl — Four Bars, One Wristband and a Night of Questionable Decisions

Four bars. One wristband. And absolutely no guarantee you’ll recognize anyone by the end of the evening. Downtown Montreal is getting an early start on Halloween with The Fright Crawl, a costumed bar-hopping adventure that trades the usual nightclub routine for an entire evening of moving between some of the city’s favourite watering holes.

The concept is straightforward: one ticket gets you access to a lineup of participating bars, with a host to keep the group moving, a live map, DJs, drink specials and a costume contest. The evening begins at NsurMackay, where participants collect their wristbands between 7:30 and 10 PM. From there, the crawl makes its way through Ziggy’s Pub, Piranha Bar and 3 Brasseurs Crescent before wrapping up at the Brass Door Pub. Five stops, technically. But who’s counting after the third?

What makes this one appealing is the freedom to explore rather than spend the entire evening in a single venue. One minute you’re surrounded by vampires and disco queens; the next, you’ve found yourself debating costume choices with a stranger dressed as a questionable superhero. And because Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, Thursday’s Fright Crawl offers a rather convenient excuse to begin the festivities early.

For the particularly ambitious, a Weekend Pass covers all four Montreal crawls through Halloween night. A word of advice: costumes are mandatory, and prop weapons aren’t permitted. So perhaps leave the medieval battle axe at home.

Why it’s on our radar: A lively alternative to the conventional nightclub party, bringing together downtown bar culture, costumes and a little organized chaos. The perfect choice for anyone who prefers their Halloween adventures with several changes of scenery.

09 / THE ACID UNDERWORLD

Acid Dreams Halloween — Where the Night Gets Properly Weird

Not every Halloween party needs theatrical blood, fake cobwebs or someone dressed as a vampire. Sometimes all you need is a dark room, a serious sound system and the unmistakable squelch of an acid bassline.Acid Dreams takes over Bar Le Ritz PDB for an all-night excursion through acid house and techno, with a lineup dedicated entirely to vinyl DJ sets and one live performance.

Steven Snomed delivers the live set, while Somebody3lse, Breakcheck, DJ InYourFace, DJ M_ and DJ Pas Grave handle the turntables. For those unfamiliar with acid house, its distinctive sound emerged from Chicago’s electronic music underground during the 1980s, built around hypnotic rhythms and the wonderfully strange tones of the Roland TB-303.

Nearly four decades later, those sounds still have the power to turn a room upside down. And there’s something refreshing about an event that places the music ahead of elaborate Halloween theatrics. No celebrity headliner required. No elaborate production promising to change your life. Just a collection of selectors, a crowd that knows why it’s there and enough records to keep things moving until sunrise. Well, six in the morning. Close enough.

Why it’s on our radar: A proper underground Halloween gathering for electronic music enthusiasts who prefer their nightmares with analogue synthesizers and vinyl records.

ACID DREAMS HALLOWEEN - Best Kept MTL

Time: 11 PM–6 AM

10 / THE ELECTRONIC UNDERWORLD

Halloween at the SAT — Into Another Dimension

Two floors. Two nights. One giant electronic rabbit hole. The Société des arts technologiques transforms into a futuristic Halloween playground where underground electronic music collides with immersive visual art.

October 30 brings Danny Daze, Carlos Souffront, Mor Elian and more, while Halloween night welcomes Detroit electro pioneer DJ Stingray 313 alongside Clarisa Kimskii, Suze Ijó and an adventurous international lineup. Inside the Satosphère, 360-degree projections create an audiovisual environment that makes the dance floor feel like another dimension.

For anyone familiar with Montreal’s electronic music scene, the SAT has long been a place where technology and nightlife find interesting ways to coexist. And while plenty of venues promise immersive experiences these days, the SAT has the architectural infrastructure to make that claim genuinely interesting.

It’s also one of the few places where an evening of serious electronic music can feel like a visit to an experimental digital art installation. Halloween simply gives everyone another excuse to push the boundaries. Costumes are strongly encouraged. Reality is entirely optional.

Why it’s on our radar: A Halloween pilgrimage for electronic music enthusiasts who prefer their supernatural experiences with serious sound systems and experimental art.

The Art of Disappearing This Halloween

Montreal has always had a talent for making the unusual feel irresistible. Halloween simply gives the city permission to take things a little further.

From haunted railway stations and secretive masquerades to gothic cinema, queer warehouse parties, downtown bar crawls and underground electronic music, Halloween Montreal 2026 offers considerably more imagination than another predictable costume party.

And that’s what makes this particular weekend interesting. You could begin with a sophisticated masquerade at the Four Seasons, spend the following night surrounded by scream queens inside a film studio, then disappear into an acid-fuelled dance floor until sunrise.

Or take an entirely different route: a century-old vampire accompanied by a magnificent pipe organ, a mysterious journey through darkened canals, and a downtown Halloween crawl that could introduce you to several new friends whose faces you’ll never actually see. Montreal provides the possibilities. Your judgement, questionable or otherwise, determines the rest. As for my rockstar alter ego, the costume trunk is still open.

Our advice? Book early, dress accordingly and leave your ordinary personality at home. Montreal has a dark side. This Halloween, it’s looking particularly good.

Stay curious. Stay unconventional. Discover more of Montreal’s best-kept cultural secrets with Best Kept MTL.
