Corey Hart | Never Surrender Tour 2019 1

Growing up in the 80’s you could wear your sunglasses at night thanks to Corey Hart. He gave us reasons to feel right doing so. Funnily enough, the song originates from another non hit called Wet, where he inserted the line I Wear My Sunglasses At Night, changed a few chord progressions over the melody spiriting a cooler cadence to a song recognized miles away.

Corey Hart has always hit above his weight. When he entered the music world in 1983, the 20-year-old immediately tapped into the decade-defining a spirit and mood of the time with the synth-laden Sunglasses At Night. No surprise it racked up countless awards and nominations.

Watch you weave then breathe your story lines… Forget my name while you collect your claim… See the light that’s right before my eyes… I wear my sunglasses at night

The singer/songwriter has sold over 16 million records worldwide and scored nine consecutive US Billboard Top 40 hits. Nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy’s in 1984, has amassed 30 Top 40 hits, including 11 in the Top 10 in Canada.  An inductee of both Canada’s Music Hall of Fame and Canada’s Walk of Fame and is also a multiple Juno award nominee and winner.

How often does an artist get the opportunity to relaunch a career with success, 20 years later… Realistically one among thousands. Corey believed he still had it in him after a magical performance in the summer of 2014. Definitely, music to my ears as I recall purchasing his albums at the legendary record store Sam the Record Man and belting them out on our family Harman Kardon sound system, Haha if only karaoke was a thing back then! So yes, I’m looking for an emotional 38 song affair he gave his home crowd for his live show in Montreal. And last we heard he remains fit and there’s no wear in his voice, proving he still has what it takes.

It’s safe to say that after twenty years Corey Hart has brought a more mature sounding record to the playing field. Old and new fans alike will be able to appreciate his latest work and as always there’s nothing stopping you from wearing your sunglasses at night.
