Art Souterrain Festival 2021 | Art Time in Underground City
For its 13th edition, the Art Souterrain Festival is back from February 20th to April 30th, 2021. This year, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the annual public art festival reinvented itself by offering a digital experience and an urban experience, the latter taking place in the Underground City of Downtown Montreal.
While several digital activities will be accessible throughout the festival on their online platforms, it is in the heart of Montreal that some thirty artists and performers will present, for 7 weeks, contemporary artworks and performances on the theme of Chronometry —the science of accurate time measurement. The works selected by the two curators, Nathalie Bachand and Dulce Pinzon, will be accessible in the safe public spaces of the underground city at all times and free of charge from April 10th to 30th, even if the city of Montreal is still in the red zone!
The artists —such as Chun Hua Catherine Dong, Caroline Monnet, Cinzia Campolese, François Couture, Tanya Saint-Pierre & Philippe-Aubert Gauthier— will present their works in Downtown Montreal through an interior circuit of 4 km (East to West) underground urban route that will start at the Palais des congrès de Montréal and continue at the Center de Commerce Mondial de Montréal, Place Victoria and the Jacques-Parizeau building.
Throughout the month of April, the digital activities started in February will continue in connection with the exhibition presented in the Montreal underground city. The artists, curators and special guests will stroll through the urban route to introduce the public to the program for this edition. All these activities will be broadcast simultaneously on the Festival’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
