ULTRAVIOLET: Four contemporary choreographers, Kristen Cere, Roddy Doble, Lesley Telford and Cass Mortimer Eipper find echoes in each other – April 27 to May 6, 2023.

The daringly eclectic series of contemporary dance explores facets of our societal and personal subconsciousness, the universes of four choreographers. Through a series of lenses, ultraviolet looks at the hidden intentions that drive our behaviour. Dance serves as the vehicle for brilliant revelations by shedding light on the shadows that reside within us. What to look forward to:

Beguile’s artistic development for Les Grands Ballets began in 2019, but was delayed by the outbreak. Lesley Telford has been motivated by a great desire to connect throughout her break. 4- Subtrate, by Cass Mortimer

Cass Mortimer Eipper’s initial work for Les Grands Ballets is motivated by an investigation of alternative realities. He challenges us to reevaluate our senses and cognition as we travel through realms constructed of mismatched parts and pieces at the nexus of biology and digital technology.

One of these reimagined collages that combines the past and the future is called Substrate. This piece investigates how human interaction patterns have been altered by the hybridised versions of ourselves that are fusing with the remains of digital archives.

Choreography: Cass Mortimer Eipper
Original score: James Peter Brown, composer; Teresa Berganza, Alicia Nafé, Yvonne Kenny, London Symphony Orchestra & Claudio Abbado, Carmen, Act 2: Les tringles des sistres tintaient (Carmen, Mercédès, Frasquita) by Georges Bizet
