Were you planning on going to a concert? Now you can’t. Overall, it seems like this lockdown has had a negative effect on all of our lives.
Well, what if I told you there were many things you could do to make lockdown fun? Turns out, there are tons of activities to keep yourself busy. Some are productive and some just plain, old, fun! Lockdown does not mean you have to be down in the dumps! Here are 6 things you can do to make it a blast!
1. Read, read, read
Reading is super fun. There are countless books out there for everyone. Although it is extremely satisfying, busy lives and tiredness force us to put down the books. Who has time for reading when there are so many other things to do? Work, go out with friends, go to the movies, go shopping. There just isn’t enough time in the day to curl up with a good book and a warm cup of tea. Now, it is time to do just that.
Read that book that you bought and ended up never reading! Order some books online. It’s a great way to get off of your laptop and relax your eyes.
Reading always gets put on the back-burner. Lockdown is a chance for you to catch up on your reading and discover new books.
2. D.I.Y is the ULTIMATE in things to do during lockdown – no better time!
Looking for fun activities to do without going outside? Look no further. There are countless things you can make in the comfort of your own home.
Sew a new bag, knit a sweater, make some paint and our favourite: soap. Yes, you can make you own soap at home! How cool is that? It is super easy and relaxing. You can add food colouring and a scent you love! Nothing is more important right now than washing your hands. Why not wash your hands with a soap you made yourself? Making soap sounds a bit intimidating at first but this recipe makes it seem like a piece of cake!
3. Unleash your inner cook
The temporary closing of most restaurants has forced most people to cook at home. Cooking is an arduous task for many, but it does not have to be. Lockdown is your chance to improve your cooking skills. You do not have to be great cook! Just follow some easy recipes online and you will be just fine. Have a favourite food you love to order when you eat at restaurants? Try to remake it.
It certainly does not have to be perfect the first time. You have plenty of time to try all the recipes your heart desires! Bake some bread, cupcakes, soup, spaghetti, the options are endless. This is truly the time to get into the kitchen and whip up some delicious meals. You may even wan to continue eating at home!

4. Exercise is crucial
This whole staying at home thing has made us extremely sedentary. Most of us are understandably, not too keen on leaving the house…
Even though it is extremely important to avoid contact with people outside of your household, it is still very important that you get some exercise. Go on a run, a walk, or if you have a bicycle, make use of it! Fresh air is tremendously important right now. It refreshes us and helps us think more clearly.
Don’t want to leave the house? Do some at home exercises. There are countless apps and YouTube videos to help. Whatever you do, make sure to get some exercise and move around once in a while.
5. Self-care is essential
Tired from all that exercising? It is time to wind down. Don’t be too hard on yourself during lockdown. We all need to chill sometimes. Watch some Netflix. Go through your list and watch the movies/TV shows you never got around to watching. Wanna watch with a friend? Use Netflix Party and watch movies with your buddies. It’s completely free! Do a face-mask, take a bubble-bath. There is so much to do!
Always wanted to learn a new language? Well now you have all the time in the world to do so. Download Duolingo and get going. Start journaling, start a blog. Now is the time to take care of yourself and do the things you’ve never had time for.

6. Hobby time
Many at-home hobbies are forgotten during our hectic day-to-day lives. Things such as painting, singing, playing an instrument, woodworking, sewing and everything in between. Get back into what you love doing. Get a canvas and start painting. You have a lot of time and no excuses.
