Toby Lyle of Burgundy Lion Group launches his own remarkable bourbon for Maker’s Mark
Toby Lyle launches his own bourbon for Maker’s Mark
Maker’s Mark is a popular bourbon whiskey brand that has gained significant popularity on the Canadian market. The brand is known for its distinct red wax seal and its smooth, sweet flavor profile that is the result of using red winter wheat as a primary ingredient. They have established themselves as a premium bourbon whiskey brand in Canada, known for its quality, taste, and unique branding. To note, they are also the only Bourbon distillery with their own water source and watershed. Kentucky lime stone filters out the iron from Bourbon, allowing Marker’s Mark to punch above their weight in price vs quality.
Each year, Maker’s Mark selects a single restaurant group from Eastern Canada to participate in its prestigious Barrel Select program, allowing the group to blend their own unique whiskey. This year, the Burgundy Lion Group has been chosen to participate, thanks to their exceptional whiskey program and the expertise and passion of their resident whiskey connoisseur, Toby Lyle.
As the owner of several successful Canadian restaurants including the acclaimed Burgundy Lion, Toby Lyle is already a well-known figure in the culinary world. However, his recent foray into the world of whiskey by creating his own bourbon for Maker’s Mark is nothing short of impressive…
Lyle’s passion for the art of distillation, combined with his extensive knowledge of flavor and culinary expertise, highlight his dedication to creating the perfect blend, from selecting the grains to aging the final product, is a testament to his commitment to excellence.
Creating your own bourbon is no small feat. Bourbon is a type of American whiskey that is distilled from corn and aged in charred oak barrels. To be classified as bourbon, the whiskey must meet certain legal requirements, such as being produced in the United States and containing at least 51% corn.
Additionally, the whiskey must be aged in new, charred oak barrels and bottled at a minimum of 80 proof. Given these requirements, creating a high-quality bourbon that meets these standards requires a great deal of skill and expertise.
“Adrianna,” the result of this collaboration (and also the middle name of Toby’s 7 year old daughter) , is a Burgundy Lion group Bourbon that embodies the perfect balance of sophistication and approachability. During the launch at the brand new Hyatt Centric, some media and industry people had the chance to test this new whiskey exclusively. The result delivers notes of caramel, vanilla and baking spice that greet the palate in layers.
The fact that Toby Lyle created his own bourbon for Maker’s Mark is an impressive achievement. It requires a great deal of skill, savoir-faire, and dedication to the craft of whiskey-making. By creating his own bourbon, Lyle is able to offer something truly special to his customers, set himself apart from the competition, and create a sense of brand loyalty.
Bourbon is also an excellent introduction to whisky for several reasons. First, bourbon is made primarily from corn, which gives it a sweeter, smoother taste than many other whiskies. This makes it a great choice for those who are new to the world of whisky and may find the more robust flavors of other types of whiskies overwhelming.
As for Lyle and his brand new project, we can only hope that the sales of his bourbon will be as impressive as his restaurants are, and that he will continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible in the culinary world.
