Swing into Winter: Groove with UK’s Swing & Bass Maestro Mista Trick
In May 2023 the Flamingo Funk crew threw their first event: an unforgettable evening with UK Breakbeat legend KRAFTY KUTS. The dance floor erupted with BASS FACE. It was absolute mayhem in the best possible sense! It is a really tough act to follow. For their next event they needed to raise the bar. So they teamed up with the beat scientists at TESLA NIGHTS to harness the electric energy of the dance floor! To spread the word to hibernating Flamingo Funkers across this frozen land, they enlisted BEST KEPT MTL. To host this gathering BAR LA SHOP eagerly agreed to be their sanctuary.
Together we are honored to present one of the biggest ElectroSwing artists in the world! He is the founder of the legendary UK label SWING N BASS whose epic productions & events are known worldwide! On January 18 the Flamingo Funk winter dance floor mating rituals will be conducted by the one and only MISTA TRICK !!!
As a DJ & Producer, Mista Trick is in a league of his own. Mixing vintage, vaudeville vibes with down and dirty drum n bass, Mista Trick sounds like the love-child of a wartime knees-up and a 90s rave. He’s fresh, he’s fun, he’s all about the boogie. Bring your flat caps and suspenders and throw some swinging shapes!
He’s performed all around the UK as well as in Paris, Zurich, Barcelona, Lyon, Sofia, Burgas, Alicante, Grenoble, Vienna and Whistler. He played at Festivals like Glastonbury, Shambala, Jyva’zik, Electro Swing Club Paris, Boomtown Fair, Bestival, Under The Hill, Nozstock, Wildfire, Swingamajig, Illusive and Twinwood.
He performs solo DJ sets as well as with the live Big Band swing ensemble Mista Trick Collective. He’s the curator and artistic director behind the Under the Hill Fest and the Little Pharma stage at Boomtown Fair. He has released tracks on Ragtime Records, Rimboe Riddim, Freshly Squeezed, Pashmount Music and Sony.
He produced remixes for Jamie Berry, Lily Allen, Dubioza kolektiv, Sam & The Womp, Swingrowers, KD Soundsystem, Molotov Jukebox, Electric Swing Circus, Extra Medium, Scratchophone Orchestra, Phil Mac, Future Shape of Sound, Lamuzgueule, Caravan Palace and Josh & Le Chat Feat Flechette.

To assist Mista Trick in our winter mating dance ritual, the Flamingo Funk family have lovingly selected a talented bunch of local DJ’s. The evening will begin with TESLA NIGHTS co-resident Dj’s SEMIRA and SABI NON STOP.
SABI NON STOP has been spinning the grooves since 1988! He likes to make your ears sing and to keep your brain & feet moving! His style is eclectic as he flirts with many genres like Funky Tech House, Psychedelic Techno, Organic House, Bass House, Chillout, Ethno-World, Electroswing, Balkan Beat and beyond!
He has had the pleasure of performing at a hundred festivals over the last 25 years including Eclipse Festival, Future Forest, Timeless, Good Vibes, Valhalla, Triskel and Space Gathering! He has shared the stage with like of The Orb, Adham Shaikh, Onionz, Grouch, James Coplan (Broken Toy). Sabi is also the co-creator of Tesla Nights productions, Infusion nights and the Tatanka festival!
SEMIRA has been DJ’ing since 2001. She loves to play many different styles of music. Because of this versatility she was chosen as co-resident DJ at Tesla Nights to either open or close the night. She was a founding member of the Blue Mushroom Sirkus Psyshow and has played at many Speakeasy and Steampunk events. She has been booking chillout events since 2002. She has played numerous festivals including Shambhala, Eclipse, Openmind and Timeless.
Next up is mean lean breaks queen machine MELODRASTIK! Spinning since 2006, this gal has played at many club nights & festivals. She was a member of the iconic Planet Break crew. Melo plays a mix of Breakbeat, Electro, House and Garage. In recent years she booked & played alongside international bass music headliners like Deekline, Benny Page, DJ Hybrid, Krafty Kuts and Euphonique.
This inspiring chef is hot in the kitchen and fiyah on the decks! Certified Bass Freak 7 Days a Week! Her weekly DJ sets on TWITCH are not to be missed! She is one half of the popular female B2B duo HEAVY GEMZ. Which led to being a co- founder of BASS GIRLZ FROM THE BLOCK, an all female DJ collective that books female headliners. She is also a founding member of the FLAMINGO FUNK crew and was the catalyst to bring Krafty Kuts to perform in Montreal.
Finally, to close the night, DJ GUAPO will take you on an anarchic adventure. His sets are a loving tribute to sample culture. Funk, Soul, Blues, Reggae, Disco, Rock & Hip Hop anthems are sampled, glitched and remixed into Ghetto Funk, Glitch Hop, Electro Swing, Bass House & DnB. He creates an absurdly funky experience! His DJ mixes regularly reach the TOP 5 in the world on the MIXCLOUD charts.
Twenty years into a life sentence in the music biz, Guapo has performed at festivals like Glastonbury (UK) and the Telerama Dub Festival (Paris). He was nominated for a Jutra Award for Best Film Score, He collaborated with Grammy & Juno Award winners and with Jean Paul Gaultier. He produced songs on many albums by UK world beat pioneers Suns of Arqa. He is a co-founder of the Flamingo Funk crew and had the honor to perform the closing set after Krafty Kuts.

MEET YOUR HOSTS
TESLA NIGHTS started in September 2014 at Studio Loco in the Mile End district of Montreal. Sébastien Robillard (Booker & co-resident DJ), Martin Bennett (host and live act) and Semira Weiss (co-resident DJ) teamed up to create an epic all night underground event with seven DJ performances! The adventure in this mythical loft ended in 2020 and is now continuing in different forms with events at Bar La Shop!
FLAMINGO FUNK was founded by MELODRASTIK and GUAPO as an outlet to throw Bass Music events where the dress code is Flamingos and Bass Face. Where we can invite our favorite headliners to come perform in Montreal. Where the DJ’s are challenged to play their most silly, funky & absurd music with bad ass bass from the bowels of Hell!
