PHOQUE FEST 2020 | Montreal’s Seal Meat Festival Returns
Phoque Fest 2020 — Montreal’s Seal Fest with a provocative name in French is back for a 3rd edition from September 10 to 19. This annual foodie event offers lovers of culinary curiosities the opportunity to experience delicious dark seal meat recipes specially prepared by the best chefs in Greater Montreal.
A cocktail, beer or glass of wine is included with each tasting. You can take advantage of this offer starting from $15 only by booking directly with the participating restaurants.
Naturally, the first question that pops in the minds of ethical foodies is how the harvest of seal meat is conducted. Well, each year Fisheries and Oceans Canada scientists set an annual quota taking in numerous factors including ice conditions, birth rates, etc. This quota has not been reached in years. Last year less than 20% of the actual quota was harvested. Both Harp Seal and Grey Seal are listed as “Smarter Seafood” by Exploramer, a certification program that ensures marine resources are managed and used responsibly.
High in iron, zinc and magnesium as well as in vitamin A, D3 and B12; the consumption of wild, natural seal meat and omega-3 seal oil has many health benefits, including improving energy metabolism, increasing red blood cell formation, reinforcing the immune system, helping build and repair body tissue, improving muscle function and increasing muscle strength.
During this edition of Phoque Fest, you can discover delicious seal meat dishes in the menu of the following participating restaurants in Greater Montreal:
Bar à Vin Liège
Bidon
Caribou Gourmand
Chez Chose
Le 279
Les Îles en ville
Limoges 67 SteakHouse
Maison St-Paul
Restaurant de l’ITHQ
Restaurant Manitoba
Salaison Limoges Extra
So don’t miss the Phoque Fest launch party at Maison St-Paul with chef Anton Bartoli on September 10 starting at 6PM. You can share your experiences on Instagram throughout the event with the #phoquefest.
