M for Montreal | Music RDV #9 1

M for Montreal’s 9th edition may prove to be its best one yet! 150+ artists will give the performance of a lifetime in hopes of catching the eye of some of the biggest names in the music industry, in Montreal’s top venues. BandMark has been on M’s promo bandwagon and loyal advocates of the festival’s mission: giving music industry professionals the chance to discover the very best in Montreal’s talent, all-the-while attending and participating in panels, workshops, and discussions. This year, Lisa Mac will be our ambassador scouting new talent ready to benefit from our social media reach.

What’s new? M’s graphic identity. Let’s face it the last ‘1’ in particular was kind of an eye sore. The new brand is representative of the bridge that M for Montreal has been working hard at creating between musical creativity and business opportunities. The festival, with its new identity, uses the concept of a label, used as a signature, a vision.

M is also proud to collaborate this year with Docteur Julien Foundation of Le Garage à musique where all the profits will be donated to the social pediatry project, a unique intervention to children an young adults aged 0-20, combining academic help for kids and the collective practice of music. Performances by Lisa Leblanc, July Talk, Canailles and Le Trouble will be playing an extensive span of genres representing today’s music scene in Canada, brought to you by Sirius XM.

Fanny Bloom, Tommy Kruise, Caravane and BadBadNotGood are some of the local artists that will get to show off what they do best during showcases, some expansive and some more intimate. Also you won’t want to miss the return of Nils Frahm (Mutek’s discovery in 2013), Dead Obies, The Oh See’s, Operators and Les Sins (the ever popular Toro Y Moi’s side project).

Francophone music will be at the forefront. Reps from over 15 countries will size up talent like Klo Pelgag, Bernhari, Essaie Pas and Eman x Vlooper. Sirius XM is playing a big part by helping the selection’s artists shine on its stations, while supporting the exporting mission of M for Montreal, a major springboard for out-of-Quebec markets.

The main attraction will no doubt be the panels and workshops where international delegates and artist representatives come to exchange, educate and debate hot topics like online presence, royalty fees, innovation in music technologies and the future of festivals. The stage is set for them to meet in an atmosphere condusive to business opportunities through networking activities including speed schmoozing, cocktails and private dinners. M’s all star lineup of panelists and moderators include Jon Leiberberg (Roc Nation, Los Angeles), Elliot Lefko (Coachella, USA) and Travis Banko (Laneway Festival, Australia).

Talk about a multifaceted fest: The general public gets entertained by the artist line-up while deals take place backstage! Here’s how it’s going down.
