Printemps du MAC 2023 Shimmered at New City Gas and Raised $500K+
On a shimmering evening of April 28th, Montreal’s iconic New City Gas offered guests a metaphorical midnight swim through a potent mix of art, fashion, music, oysters and cocktails.
Over 1200 art connaisseurs, glitterati, and the city’s movers and shakers converged for the 15th edition of Printemps du MAC, an extravagant event that raised a record-breaking $500,000 for the Fondation du Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. Under the theme BLEU MINUIT, inspired by the retro ambience of 1970s pool parties of California, the evening looked, sounded and felt like an oasis of glamour on a hot summer night.
The event’s honorary chairs – Julien Dirand and Sophie Laframboise – lent their invaluable support to the evening, ensuring the gala’s glitzy success.
The silent auction, curated by Erika Del Vecchio, and featuring 50 lots of artwork by 21 Canadian artists, raised an impressive $70,000. Among the showcased artists were Chris Fusaro, Pascale Girardin, Andrew Moncrief, Sabrina Ratté, and Corri-Lynn Tetz. In a generous gesture, the Fondation du MAC donated one-third of the auction proceeds to the participating artists to support their creative projects.
The Printemps du MAC event – co-chaired by Francis Guindon and Charles LeMay – has built a reputation for its spectacular festive atmosphere, trend-setting themes, and inclusiveness.
This year was no exception, as the crowd donned ensembles featuring neoprene, netting, silk, rhinestones, lycra, pearls and chiffon in nautical hues.
Guests were treated to a makeup retouching station and perfume trial courtesy of the event’s official beauty partner, Yves Saint-Laurent Beauté, as well as a private photo booth provided by Balnea.
The experiential agency YHP crafted the mesmerizing concept for the evening, with support from Printemps du MAC‘s Organizing Committee.
The evening’s immersive experience would not have been complete without the production and event management expertise of Allison Forbes.
Hypnotic projections by Rodeo FX and a breathtaking musical performance by singer Claudia Bouvette further elevated the event.
As the night came to a close, the ecstatic crowd reluctantly bid adieu to the magical realm of Printemps du MAC.
The event’s success left a lasting impression, serving as a testament to Montreal’s thriving arts community. The question now lingers: how will the city’s creative minds surpass this spectacular soirée at next year’s event? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: Montreal’s love affair with contemporary art is far from over.
Here is what you need to know about Printemps du MAC
Created in 2006, Les Printemps du MAC takes shape each year under the management of the Printemps du MAC Organizing Committee, a group of young philanthropists with a passion for contemporary art who shoulder the work of organizing a unique event with real added value for the guests, and of raising the MAC’s profile for the benefit of the Fondation du Musée d’art contemporain.
Born out of a desire to make younger generations more aware of contemporary art and of the MAC’s essential role in conserving and exhibiting this legacy at the provincial, national and international levels, this event makes a direct contribution to the MAC’s development since all proceeds from the gala flow to the Fondation du MAC.
