The Windsor Station came alive with celebration and philanthropy for Le Bal Rouge 2023

After the stunning success of last year’s fiery edition, the much-anticipated gala, organized by the McGill University Health Centre Foundation, took place on Friday, May 25th, and exceeded all expectations by raising a staggering $1.68 million. The funds raised will go towards supporting the groundbreaking research and life-saving care provided by the Montreal Chest Institute of the MUHC.

Le Bal Rouge unfolded within the walls of the former railway station, setting the stage for an unforgettable night inspired by the allure of The Great Gatsby and the Roaring 20s. As guests ascended the grand staircases, they were greeted by a captivating cocktail reception.

The air was filled with excitement as attendees indulged in delectable canapés, fresh oysters, and an abundance of champagne. Adding to the charm of the evening was a remarkable 360-degree photobooth, capturing beautiful memories, and a living statue who delighted guests by posing for photographs.

When the doors opened to reveal the dining area, guests were met with a breathtaking sight. The art deco-inspired décor adorned the space with touches of velvet, marble, and opulence.

Magnificent centrepieces featuring delicate pale pink roses and deep purple peonies graced each table, while crystal chandeliers illuminated the room, casting a radiant glow upon the festivities.

The evening commenced with heartfelt speeches from the co-chairs of Le Bal Rouge, Maria Della Posta, Lucie Guillemette, Sacha Haque, and Lisa Giannone. They eloquently expressed their admiration for the extraordinary work of the MUHC’s Division of Respiratory Medicine, also known as the Montreal Chest Institute.

Le Bal Rouge aimed to shed light on the groundbreaking respiratory research taking place at the MUHC, emphasizing the importance of supporting such critical initiatives. Dr. Kevin Schwartzman, Director of the Division of Respiratory Medicine, was also honored for his leadership and his invaluable contributions to tuberculosis research and the MUHC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The culinary experience was nothing short of exceptional, courtesy of renowned chef Armando Arruda and his team from the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth hotel.

Attendees savored a sumptuous four-course meal featuring tantalizing dishes such as tiger shrimp and smoked salmon, lobster Newburg, Tournedos Rossini, and an exquisite art deco twist on cherries jubilee.

Between courses, guests of Le Bal Rouge were treated to popular cover songs by Paul Chacra’s 1945 The Band, while DJ Fafa Khan kept the dance floor alive with an eclectic mix of tracks. However, the big surprise was an electrifying performance by singer Cherry Lena popping out of a huge three-tiered black cake box, surrounded by dancers Raiko Portuondo, Julien Desgagnés, Rani, and Leila Aziza.

To further amplify the excitement, guests had the opportunity to participate in a fundraising raffle and win marvelous prizes. Ten lucky winners walked away with incredible rewards, knowing that their contributions directly supported respiratory research and care at the MUHC.

The prizes ranged from exclusive Montreal Canadiens game tickets with the best seats in the house to a dazzling diamond necklace courtesy of Kaufmann de Suisse. The grand prize, generously provided by Air Canada, consisted of four business class tickets to any destination worldwide, making dreams of travel a reality.

The success of Le Bal Rouge 2023 builds upon a remarkable legacy. Since its inception in 2016, the gala has raised over $6.7 million to support various crucial causes at the MUHC that affect so many families.
