IMAGINE MONET | Massive Immersive Exhibition at Arsenal

Imagine Monet

IMAGINE MONET — an immersive exhibition that submerges the visitor in the artworks of a giant of Impressionist painting, Claude Monet — begins December 15, 2021 as a world premiere and exclusively in Quebec at Arsenal contemporary art Montreal until February 27, 2022.

Created by Annabelle Mauger, Julie Baron and art historian Androula Michael — the team behind the success of Imagine Van Gogh and Imagine PicassoIMAGINE MONET was initially considered by its creators an impossible exhibition to produce since it projects in one place more than 200 of Monet’s paintings.

Using IMAGE TOTALE© — the revolutionary process of projection invented by Albert Plécy in 1977 — the complete immersion of visitors in the exhibition, reinforced by the synchronized diffusion of an accompanying musical soundtrack, completely frees them to explore a universe of images in their own way.

The “Cathedrals” and the “Water Lilies” from Monet’s garden in Giverny — a village in the region of Normandy in northern France — are among the many series of paintings that are given new life through this vivid artistic approach.

Above all, the exhibition perfectly communicates Monet’s desire to capture the fleeting nature of the light reflected on the landscape, on people and things. In his rapid execution in the open air, and the resulting dissolution of form, he went against the academicism of the time and created colourful environments that are, one might say, the first immersive works in the history of Modern Art.
