The Essence of CANTATA
At the heart of “CANTATA” lies a deep reverence for the rich tapestry of Italian culture, from the tender lullabies to the spirited pizziche of Salento and the romantic Neapolitan serenades. Bigonzetti’s choreography, accompanied by the spellbinding vocals and traditional music from Southern Italy, evokes a powerful narrative of human emotion and connection. The dancers, adorned in costumes designed by Helena De Medeiros and under the evocative lighting of Carlo Cerri, bring to life the passionate and tumultuous relationships that define our existence. This 40-minute journey is an explosive cocktail of emotions, as unpredictable and mesmerizing as Mount Vesuvius itself.
Formula 1 Ballet?!
Beyond “CANTATA,” the evening unfolds with a diverse array of performances that explore various facets of human experience and artistic expression. American choreographer Bridget Breiner’s “In Honour Of” is a neo-classical piece inspired by Georgs Pelēcis’s composition, paying homage to the artistic heritage and bridging generations of artists. Canadian Étienne Delorme’s “Podium” is a contemporary ballet that delves into the urgency of living, ambition, and the search for identity, symbolized through Formula 1-style outfits and an original soundtrack reminiscent of roaring engines!
NEBE: A Celestial Journey
Lastly, one for the dreamers: NEBE, a collaborative piece by Jérémy Galdeano and Věra Kvarčáková. This performance whisks away audiences on a celestial journey marked by impermanence and dreams. Set to ethereal enchanting music, including Tchaikovsky’s famous “Pas de deux” from Swan Lake. NEBE guarantees a profound exploration of the contrasts between the terrestrial and the divine…
With performances scheduled for March 14, 15, and 16 at 8:00 PM, and a matinee on March 16 at 2:00 PM, CANTATA and its accompanying pieces offer a unique opportunity to experience the depth and diversity of contemporary ballet. Tickets start at $49, making this event accessible to a wide audience eager to immerse themselves in the world of dance and creativity!
