Like many of us, Tava often found comfort and hope in all the different adaptations of the rainbow sprinkled all around the city. He decided to work on a special one – one that could help and give back. “Historically, The rainbow has been and still is a symbol of resilience and an emblem for oppressed communities. The rainbow also inspires unity and encourages communal effort; it is the colourful and beautiful light effect that comes after the rain. ” says Tava.

Why the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund Tava and his team chose the MUHC Foundation’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund primarily because of the hospital’s tremendous work in innovative clinical research and their current focus on COVID-19. “This is my way of saying thank you to those who are sacrificing their well-being for the sake of others.” explains Antoine Tava. “Our MUHC teams are the hospital heroes on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. They’re caring for patients, leading numerous clinical trials to prevent and cure the virus, and working tirelessly to develop a vaccine,” says Julie Quenneville, MUHC Foundation President. “Contributions such as Tava’s “After the Storm” project remind us that our MUHC heroes are not alone in the fight against COVID-19.”

Antoine Tava is a Canadian visual artist with a pop art twist,

whose work explores iconic brands, cartoon characters, and advertising imageries, subverting and reconstructing their cult status in popular culture. Tava graduated from Concordia University in 2003, he obtained a BFA and majored in Film Animation. He has worked for numerous animation and advertising studio’s in Montreal and abroad as an Art Director and Animation Director. Tava draws inspiration from pop culture and emerging fashion and fads: he takes an omnivorous approach to culture both high and low, interacting with its symbolism and cult figures through his tongue-in-cheek style and signature ‘dripping’ visual effect. From illustrations to paintings, largescale murals and brand collaborations, the visual artist explores as many mediums as he does subjects in his pop-culture synthesis. Tava has had the chance to collaborate with international brands such as Nike, Adidas, Ford Canada, Romeos Gin, Topshop, Sephora and many others. His work has been showcased in museums, festivals and galleries in several international cities as Montreal, Toronto, New York, Miami, Denver, Dubai, Norwich, Geneva, Hong Kong, Shanghai, or Beijing.
