The team behind the Barranco restaurant is set to to celebrate its second anniversary and the opening of its terrace on Tuesday, June 6th. During the month of January, Barranco was completely renovated to create a haven that pays homage to its Peruvian roots. The remodelled dining room brims with tradition, culture, and avant-garde cuisine – a proud ambassador of Peru in Montreal.

Team Barranco engaged on their transformative path by partnering with the renowned interior design firm, Rebel Design. Fidel Vasquez, the guiding voice behind the endeavour, explained, “Our primary goal is to introduce Montreal to Peruvian culture and cuisine through traditional and urban elements that reflect Peru.” The evident motif that threads its way throughout the eatery is a testimony to this sentiment, painting an immersive Peruvian experience for every patron.

Following the design success at Nikkei MTL restaurant, Stéphanie Bélanger from Rebel Design was given free reign once again. Key highlights of the new design include traditional Peruvian-coloured woven banquettes, a solid bar accommodating up to 10 guests, and unique textures splashed across the dining room. The space is not just a venue for eating; it’s an experience, an immersion, and a journey into Peruvian tradition, urbanity, and design.

Adding artistic muscle to the aesthetic is Anthony Teetz Pecoraro, who has put his creative flair to work by painting murals throughout the restaurant. These pieces are bold, vibrant, and hold a mirror to the festive spirit of the Barranco district in Lima, Peru. Whether you’re a Montreal local or an international tourist exploring the city’s food scene, Barranco now offers a glimpse into a district many miles away, a testament to how authentic cuisine and art can traverse borders.

And while decor and ambiance are essential components of a dining experience, the crowning jewel remains the food. Matching step with the revamp, chefs Marco Oliart, Michelangelo Miceli, and Daniel Silva have breathed new life into the food menu.

Patrons can now expect exciting additions like chicharron marino, pollito broaster, tofu saltado, and anticucho de pollito a la brasa among others. The reinvented menu is a narrative in itself, echoing the culinary diversity of Peru. It cleverly integrates influences from Nippo-Peruvian and Chinese-Peruvian cuisines, inviting patrons to explore the multi-faceted flavours of Peruvian gastronomy.

Jasmine Rithvixay, the team’s bar manager and in-house mixologist, has curated a new drinks menu that impeccably complements the food. These carefully crafted cocktails not only highlight the authentic and unique tastes of Peru but also pay tribute to the colourful spirit of the Barranco district in Lima.
