An extended Summer on Promenade Wellington!
Summer is coming to an end. Soon, sunny days will be replaced with snowy evenings. Don’t let your last summer moments pass you by. The Promenade Wellington in Verdun will be pedestrianized until the 13th of September. With over 500 parking spots, free 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to midnight, available around the street, and a bike path along the waterfront or on De Verdun, Wellington street is set up to explore. Even public transport isn’t an issue with the De l’Église metro station leading right onto Promenade Wellington.
From terraces to food, animations and music festivals, Promenade Wellington has all the elements to make your summer end on a memorable note. Here are a few things you can do in Montreal’s new hot-spot #VerdunLuv
1. Food & Beverages
Coffee and food, our number one motivation to get out of bed is plenty on #PromenadeWellington. Bring your laptop and get some work done at one of the street’s delightful cafes. Nature-lovers should head on down to Café le 5e which describes itself as 50% coffee and 50% work with 100% zero waste. Otherwise Lili & Oli, the perfect cafe to work and grab a healthy lunch at. It even has an area for children.
Enjoy fresh, homemade French bakery goods at Pâtisserie de la Gare, a homely, cozy French bakery. More of a tea person? Maison de thé Cha Noir offers more than 100 tea types and passionate, tea-loving staff to help you discover your newest tea leaf obsession.
Down to have a quick drink with some friends? Promenade Wellington also offers a variety of great bars for you and your buds. These include, but are not limited to: a Cambodian bar Les Street Monkeys, beautifully decorated Bar Le Trèfle with beer, scotch, and a varied bistro menu, and of course, Bar Verdun Beach which offers visitors the chance to eat, drink, and dance on a gorgeous terrace.
International cuisine is also available with Asian cuisines such as Sushi Bae, and Restaurant Taj Mahal l’Inde. Others include Mexican foods like El Sabor de México, delicious Middle Eastern food Boustan, and Hawaiian cuisine at Poke Station. Other must-visit restaurants are Pâtisserie polonaise Wawel with delicacies out of the ordinary, Comptoir 21 with delicious fresh fish wrapped in perfectly crusty batter, Pizza Pizza, and La Belle Province if you’re longing for a proper Poutine.
With this many options, going hungry on promenade Wellington will be impossible, and finding quality bites will be the least of your worries. Your only problem will be the abundance of magnificent choices!
2. Shopping/ Terraces
Shopping is undeniably, a frequent pastime activity for many of us. Whether you actually need something or are simply window shopping to gain some style inspiration, Promenade Wellington has got you covered. With stores ranging from fashion design to sports & wellness, to specialty boutiques, everyone has a store they’d like to shop till they drop-in, on Wellington. Some chic fashion stores including La Vie En Rose for lingerie, and Lunetterie Luc Doyle with eye care professionals ready to help out.
Some ethical choices also include Fripe-Prix Renaissance and Marigold by Marilyne Baril, ethical clothing for women made in 100% in Montreal by designer Marilyne Baril. Pawnshop Cash 2000, gift shop La Mistinguette and electronic specialist King Paq Technologie, are some of the many specialty stores found on this busy street. Ballet Hop, a ballet studio that makes ballet accessible to all, and Énergie Cardio which offers accessible and effective programs supervised by competent and motivating coaches are two places for advanced and amateur athletes alike.
Libraries, grocery stores and art shops are also present on Promenade Wellington’s colourful streets. It is also worth mentioning that there are many great terraces accompanied by restaurants ready for your enjoyment all around Promenade Wellington. The mentioned stores and activities are just the tip of the iceberg. Going shopping in Verdun definitely marks off at least a day on your planner. Setting aside a whole day is recommended to explore the stores in all their glory.
3. Animations: Puppet fest in collaboration with Film & Music fest
Wanna do something you probably haven’t done in a while? How about a puppet show? Nothing screams fun like giant, inhabited puppets, puppets with mouths and direct holds, hybrid puppets, and even 2D ones.
Looking to do something out of the ordinary and special? Puppet shows are rare, especially ones this professional. It would be a shame to miss out on this great show taking place spontaneously on Fridays and Saturdays until September 12, 2020.
Seasonal depression is right around the corner for many of us. Soften the blow by healing your soul with some good old jazz. The International Jazz Festival will be on Promenade Wellington on August 27th for an acoustic tour as part of the Jazz Street Tour 2020. Let the world-renowned jazz festival take you to a place of pure bliss and comfort.
Looking for your next movie outing? Well, look no further. Promenade Wellington, in collaboration with Ciné-Verdun is if offering free outdoor movie screenings on August 29, September 5, and 12 at the Ethel parking lot. Yes, they are free as in completely free! Bring some blankets and chairs to enjoy a nice movie, night while adhering to the social distancing rules and regulations set in place by the government.
Last but certainly not least, is a breathtaking view of downtown Montreal, visible from the last level of the Ethel parking lot. Visit Camp Ethel every Saturday at noon and bask in the sunlight while meeting new people!
With so much to do, getting bored on Promenade Wellington is a challenge. Go ahead and make memories that’ll hold you over till next summer on this crowded, yet charming street.
