Grand Opening: Nhau bar « Kemestre | New BKM MTL Hot Spots of 2018
You know #Krock is the MTL HOT SPOT secret dispatcher! Now or should I said Nhau bar, just because I did my final #KRockHotspot NYE edition doesn’t mean that I can’t introduce to you a curated list of the Top 5 #BestKeptMTL restaurants and bars worth checking out. While everyone else is on to their New years resolution game, here I am promoting that New year ‘same me’ prerogative.
With 2018 upon us, that inevitably comes with beautifully envisioned new eateries and cocktail joints to discover around our lovely city. Montreal ceases to amaze when it comes to proving to the rest of the world that we are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to innovative gastro dining, and the art of cocktail mastery. Whether brand new to the scene, or having graced us with their presence at the end of 2017, here is my list of #KRockHotspots bringing us into 2018:
Celebrating their official grand opening Today and all week long, Nhau bar is the newest addition to the second installment of HA restaurants in Vieux port de Montreal. The owners, Nic Urli, Flore-Anne Ducharme and Francisco Randez are bringing you a succulent cocktail menu created by Tao Zrafi of Taology and Maxime Daraize from Ludger, an inspired menu curated by the talented chefs at HA, the sounds of some of Montreal’s fave Dj’s, and the sexy decor of one of Montreal’s top industrial designers, Amlyne Phillips, whom is the brain behind the beauty of Kampai garden. Open Monday through Saturday as of 5:00pm and seating only 50 people maximum, this quaint and cozy spot is the perfect location to get lost and to never be found again. I’ll be there this Thurs + Fri, so expect a full review up soon on the blog. #souslarue
If you are looking for gastro pub dining at it’s finest, than this new downtown location for Taboo restaurant is the one for you. Offering more than 45 different varieties of mini burgers, 18 styles of poutine, a mind blowing, extensive Tartare menu and other delicious eats like deep fried pickles, grilled octopus salad and nibble platters, this is taking gastro pub to a whole other level. Not only is the menu the bomb, but they have ladies night on Thursdays with 50% off salads starting as of 7:00pm, and happy hour running for us until midnight. BAM! Not only that though, this location is seriously perfect for groups, date night, or even just a casual Tuesday. The decor is chic yet casual, drinks sound uber cool and the location is right downtown on Drummond. PERF!
Now, before we even get into the concept of this new downtown location, let’s just throw out there that the menu is curated by the very well known Joe Mercuri, and executed by Star chef Patrick Hebert from the likes of Globe, Table51 and Greasy spoon. These are two chefs extraordinaire here in Montreal. From what I have heard so far, together they are bringing you a visionary dining experience.
“The concept: think “Chemistry”. Think periodic table. Think the chemical reaction that happens when food and drink meet mouth. Think about the chemical reaction between anything. Pleasure. Pain. Passion. People!”
This is the understanding I get from the concept of this gourmet bar. Bringing all of the elements together and creating a mouth watering chemical reaction for our taste buds. Also opened at the end of 2017, but none the less a valuable addition to this list, the decor of Clandestino has taken my breath away. There is something about rustic wood finishings and plush, antique furniture that gives you a feel of romance and mystery. Throw a little tequila into that mix, and you’ve got yourself the perfect combination for a wicked soiree. Opened Wednesday through Saturday as of 7:00pm, this is definitely the place for your next steamy rendez vous.
I have yet to try this one myself because Japenese fair is not a personal preference BUT, I have heard nothing but amazing things and simply based on Instagram worthy locations, I would definitely add this one to your list. The decor is absolutely exquisite. It was designed by the exceptionally talented Guillaume Ménard of Atelier Mainor, whom has a few other success stories under his belt in this city.
The menu is not too extensive and easy to follow unlike other Japanese restaurants I have seen, and they have 4 different kinds of Sake with the option of a tasting platter. Located in the heart of the village, this little Japanese eden is the perfect location whether it be a first date, or girls night out.
