Sugar Ball | QC rock journey

Truth be told… I have not set foot in the McCord Museum since the 90s! I do recall though standing in the museum lobby and being mesmerized by an impressive 1st nations totem pole right in the middle of the main stairwell. Wonder if it’s still there… Fast forward to 2014 the McCord Museum is home to one of the largest historical collections in North America, consisting of First Peoples objects, costumes and textiles, photographs, artworks, and textual archives with close to 1.5 million artifacts. Visitors can also enjoy a number of educational and cultural activities based on its exciting exhibits.

This year’s 5th edition of the Sugar Ball is my first. Friday May 9th, 2014 at 8 pm, thanks to National Bank and Lexus’s support some 800 party-goers, mostly aged 25 to 45, will gather for a special evening at the Arsenal (2020 William Street, Montreal) to encourage the preservation and sharing of our history. All proceeds will go towards the conservation of McCord Museum collections, innovative exhibitions and its educational and cultural programs. What’s the buzz on BandMark’s social communities? It’s THE top fundraising event of the the year if you’re looking to celebrate, network and support a great mission all over the course of a very special evening.

The Sugar Ball is tying its theme with the Museum’s new exhibition Music – Quebec, Charlebois to Arcade Fire (May 30th to October 13th, 2014). The evening will pay tribute to music from the 1960s-present to reflect the exhibition, an immersion in the popular passions of Quebec during that period with a spotlight on the important artists involved. Crowd pleasing DJ Abeille and DJ YO-C will entertain us with a selection of hits from different eras into the early hours of the morning.

Here’s what else caught my eye: Surprises and activities for VIPs, media red carpet and a cocktail reception, gourmet stations. Expect to see Oysters from M sur Masson, fresh pizza from Bevo Bar + Pizzeria, Snowdon Deli’s delicious smoked meat, sushi from Ryu, delicacies provided by B & M restaurant and hors-d’oeuvres from Santos, to name a few. There will also be high-end drinks, including a scotch tasting (my fave), courtesy of Burgundy Lion pub. As well, guests will have access to an open bar with Bacardi Limited offering its Grey Goose, Bacardi and Bombay Sapphire products. Ready to rock through the ages!
