Psych Out | Electric Sun Kings 1

I have a lot of family in Australia and have visited as well. During my short 1 month stay, I became quickly acquainted with the fact that the Aussies have a booming music industry and a lot of great bands have come from down under. Some of my fave Aussie bands are grunge gods Silverchair & Psychedelic Sabbath-ish Wolfmother.

Enter The Electric Sun Kings. They are a band whose music sounds like their name.  A vivid teenaged memory comes to mind, of going to a weed dealer’s pad so my stoner BF at the time could pick up his maryjane. One of the dealers was quite a character, he was more than a pusher, he was like a drug sommelier geek. One night he was showing us his 60’s LSD collection in a book much like a stamp collectors. One of the LSD “stamps” had what I imagine the logo of this band could be! A sun with alternating tangerine and gold rays waving out until the edges of the little paper. With a current single Edge of time” that has gotten BBC airplay and a new album due in August, we have exciting things to look out for with the ESK! The music is legit trippy and easy, think The Beatles crossed with a more modern Garage sound. The following quote from their press kit, sums it up excellently:

“…Their brilliant blend of psychedelic rock perfectly covered all ages with their new takes on old sounds. Being in the crowd, one would just have to bend their ear a bit to hear people comparing their tunes to Frank Zappa, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.” -Dan Lock, Forte Magazine, June 4, 2013
