Montréal Complètement Cirque (July 5 -15)

We haven’t written about anything like this one before – welcome to Montréal Complètement Cirque, an explosive acrobatic performance that will be staged in the ever-eclectic Jardins Gamelins. Taking place on a 360 degree stage that everyone will be able to view and marvel at equally, acrobats will come together to form special tableaus in an impressive demonstration of what our bodies are capable of.

What’s even more striking about this team? They are diffusing their talent out all over Montreal in a series of free shows starting this Thursday and ending on July 15th – check out the full list here.

Festival of India (July 7 – 8)

This event will honor Indian arts and culture in all their glory and colours, for the 40th Festival of India, also called Ratha-Yatra.

The celebration will begin Saturday with a vivid procession up St. Laurent, beginning on the Milton intersection and winding up at Jeanne Mance Parc, the headquarters of festivities for the weekend. Activities at the park will include musical, dance and theatre performances, free vegetarian buffets, henna and facial decoration, an entertaining kids corner, as well as yoga and meditation workshops.

Notable shows include sitar virtuoso Uwe Neumann and tabla player Bertil Schulrabe. The organizers work in conjunction with other cultural organisms, art schools, student associations and yoga centers in order to foster positive spaces of exchange and highlight the richness of Indian culture. This unique event will fill all your senses with delight, don’t miss out!

Atmosph’Air sur la Plaza (July 4 – 8)

Time to make some deals! This popular neighborhood sidewalk sale complete with music and street animations returns to Plaza St. Hubert with an additional stage, for its 9th edition. It’s not like we’re exactly lacking on free shows these days…but here are more!

La Bronze, Men I Trust, Qualité Motel, Laura Sauvage, Jason Bajada and more will provide the soundtrack to this laid-back, family friendly street fest in one the city’s quaintest areas. Bonus points for proximity to Jean-Talon market to top off your day with delicious fruits and veggies. What else?!

Jazz Festival – Week 2 (June 27 – July 7)

With the caliber of shows unfolding this year, Jazz Festival assuredly makes the list for the second weekend running. Free shows this week are a delight for the ears and eyes, as always bringing out memorable rhythms and melodies from all genres.

Our personal top recommendation? The sweeping psychedelic indie-rock of The War on Drugs, the enchanting blues of Thornetta Davis and the incredibly dynamic Lady J and the Jazz Cigarettes.

The heat has nothing on them! 🎉 @thesuffers #FIJM #TDmusic
