Dog Friendly Hotels in Montreal That Are High Design
Montreal Dog-friendly hotels is a contradiction in itself… Quebec is one of the least dog-friendly places in Canada, so being able to find such a hotel used to be near impossible. In 2019 however, one doesn’t have to skip out on luxury and design because of your K9!
When traveling with your four-legged friend, you want to be able to stay at a nice hotel and not have to feel like you are sneaking in something terrible. To my surprise, 2 years ago, I wanted to treat myself, boyfriend and dog to a night at the Bonaventure Hotel; but to our shock, they had changed their dog-friendly policy… Love their all-year-pool, HATE their pet policy. Coming from a hotel that puts electrical tape to secure carpets, it’s a little silly that they can’t accommodate pets.
This got me to search out the best dog-friendly hotels in Montreal. I didn’t just check Trip advisor, I went to them and asked pet traveling friends which they warmly recommended too. Here are my top 5 most charming dog and pet-friendly hotels, that ALSO boast high-design and ambiance!
Hotel Le St-James – Super Dog-Friendly Montreal Hotel!
Still one of my all-time favourite hotels, Le St-James is not only THE celebrity hot spot hotel but it’s also a 19th-century landmark built in the Merchants Bank building. With gorgeous columns and an endless ceiling, one feels an immediate sense of freedom and immense space while in their expansive bar & resto The XO. Due to their high-maintenance clientele, they cannot refuse pets. There are too many celebrities who are exiting their private jets furball in tow.
Hotel St Paul – Dog-friendly Montreal Hotel $$ Pet Fee
This hotel has one of my favourite bars, but it’s not the one you may think… it’s the one upstairs. I heard, however, that they did a complete revamp in 2019, and I have meant to try a staycation there to test out the new digs. Nestled in the hotel-district in Old Montreal, the beige stone block icon (takes up the corner of Mcgill and St-Paul) that is Hotel St Paul is a popular choice for tourists and business travelers alike. The outside is a classic old MTL stone icon, but the interior has an art-immersive feel… and there is def a mysterious and unusual purple theme to both their online branding as well as their interior decor. As a creative director, I spotted that right away.
Le Mount Stephen – Very Dog-Friendly Montreal Hotel!
In the Golden square mile, is a notable club and hotel. A Business fixture, the amenities for the jet-set or local meetings are impressive: Featured amenities include limo/town car service, express check-out, and dry cleaning/laundry services. If you are planning an event in Montreal, this hotel has 5,000 square feet (465 square meters) of space consisting of conference space and meeting rooms! Our favourite thing about the Mount Stephen club is their EPIC wood-paneled blast-from-the-past BAR GEORGE. The fact that you can bring your pooch along, really shows that sophisticated hotels with an efficient cleaning service can handle pets. To me, a hotel that CANNOT handle cleaning up a bit of dog fur or accidents- are not going to be good at cleaning a toddler’s spilled dinner either. So we need more dog-friendly hotels in Montreal.
Sulpician EXTRA Dog-Friendly Montreal Hotel (dog sit!)
For those who wish to be tucked away in the heart of the old city and really live like a local, Le St-Sulpice IS that pied-a-terre. It doesn’t look like a hotel from the front. It looks like a fancy old stone building with private luxury apartments. A great winter choice, as there are gas-powered fireplace suites to cozy up to, as well as balconies to get a fresh breath of crisp air! I have visited one when a friend in the film industry was staying there. I remember how fluffy and fun the bedding was. Have a kid but don’t feel like taking parent-hood with you on a vacation? No problem, this place will babysit your pets AND children!
Hotel Gault – Unknown Level of Dog Friendliness, let us know!
In case you don’t get sick of 19th-century facades, in that Vieux-Port greystone, Hotel GAULT has one of the most beautiful facades… Hotel GAULT prides itself on being in the ELITE of Canadian hotels and has earned an accolade of prestigious recognition, landing in Canada’s top 5 hotels PERIOD. With only 30 rooms, this place books out quickly during prime dates, so make sure to snag a room in advance! One of the best kept local secrets among free-lancers in the old MTL area, is that their bar is a killer place to work from and have meetings. It has an almost casual ambiance, and staff is extremely accommodating to locals who wish to do a little work from their reddish 50s/contemporary design. A neighbour of mine LITERALLY conducts half his business there and refers to it as his “secret: office!
