A Combo Cinema-Café has landed in Mile End. It’s a cinema with a chic café attached. On weekdays, it serves up bao buns, muffins, pastries and other delicious treats while weekends bring a simple but tidy coffee shop brunch, rotating weekly. Its menu feature local breweries from Juxebox’ s Distorsion IPA to Avant-garde’s Doux-Bisous beer.

2. Lloydie’s

A hearty, authentic, fresh and flavourful Caribbean food at a fair price. True to form, brunch is a Jamaican affair at Lloydie’s, with its national dish Ackee & Saltfish, and fused items like jerk pork hash and coconut French toast. Wash it all down with some punch or tropical Bellini cocktails. (brunch is only offered at its Crescent location, only on Saturdays).

3. Radicelle

With its creatively designed high top the Radicelle on the main highlights the fields, roots and flavors of Quebec. It has just introduced Sunday brunches, featuring slight twists on classics like a Benedict with mushrooms and creamed spinach, or buckwheat crepes loaded up with Mornay cheese sauce, pesto, and ham.

4. Brasserie T!

A more casual venture for Toqué owner Normand Laprise’s, the restaurant follows a similar template to the Place des Arts original, but the brunch menu departs from it more than the other services. From Benedicts, gravlax, and French toast, it skews pretty classic, but those not in the mood for breakfast eats can grab oysters, rillettes, or cheese croquettes.

5. Jiao

One of the most intriguing brunch menus in recent times is at this trendy dim sum bar Jiao, in Old Montreal. It takes a much more fusion-ish take than the dim sum descriptor would imply, with the breakfast jiaozi dumpling complete with eggs and bacon, chicken and waffles with the bar’s take on General Tao and red velvet waffle dough, or a breakfast banh min, then a few classics like har gow and shumai dumplings to round things out.

6. Pikeos

Pikeos has brightened up the St-Henri scene for a few months now, bringing the neighbourhood its first taste of Nikkei cuisine (a Japanese-Peruvian fusion). With its dish flavours well balanced the Sunday brunch is now on the menu, leaning slightly more to a Latin American influence, with chicharrón and a sweet yucca dish presence, along with less-Peruvian norm such as chicken and waffles.

7. Dandy

As the name suggests, ex-Olive & Gourmando chef Michael Tozzi at the helm is aiming for a refined experience. With Dandy excelling at daytime dining the tight brunch menu features refined classics like ricotta pancakes or traditionally cooked latkes with egg and smoked salmon, alongside less clichéd brunchy options such as a fried chicken sandwich, or boudin.

Located across from Parc Jarry, in Villeray the new arrival Basterd keeps weekend dining comforting with classic breakfasts, pancakes, and Benedicts, yet throws a few curveballs serving up tourtière, which actually is pretty brunch-friendly when you think about it, or even a breakfast pogo with spicy maple syrup!
