Lactatia Werqs Montreal at the Drag Race Show

Amidst the hype and wonder during a brand new season of Rupaul’s Drag Race, as we wait to see the inevitable crowning of top contender Shea Couleé (let’s be honest, she’s got this), some of the biggest stars from seasons past came through Montreal this past weekend on the Werq The World Tour.

Presented by Voss Events and Theatre Berri – the Drag Race stars lit the Montreal stage ablaze with stellar lip-synch performances from the likes of Alyssa Edwards, Detox, Shangela, Kim Chi and season 9 queens Valentina, the incomparable Shea Couleé, and hosted by the one, the only Bianca Del Rio.

Montreal (and the whole world) loves their drag queens.

Though the Theatre Berri stage held so many of the stars we’ve come to love from Rupaul’s Drag Race, one very special Montreal Drag Queen stole the spotlight with more Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent than I’ve ever seen in a young queen.

I present to you our newest local drag star – LACTATIA!

All you gotta do is watch the video above to see the crowds reaction to Lactatia. The sold-out venue was in total awe of this fabulous little queen!

Bianca herself said, “even though Ginger Minj is your favourite, you’re my fucking favourite!”

“A family that drags together stays together”- famous words from a more famous queen, Rupaul herself, and a mantra that has been taken to heart by the Mélançon-Golden family.

Only 8 years old and already an inspiration to the world, gaining attention internationally from the likes of the Gay Times UK and going viral on social media, Lactatia is the performance character of Nemis Quinn Mélançon Golden – who cites Ginger Minj as a profound inspiration to him.

I love how she coordinates her outfits and I love how she does her make-up. She’s my favourite because she’s funny. She inspires me by how she performs and how she does everything. She just inspires me. She is THE Comedy Queen and I just love how she does drag” – Lactacia on her favourite Drag Star.

Lactatia was born from the creative brain of Nemis…

…with the support of his older sister Kashmyr Luna Higgins (14 years old) as his Senior Drag Consultant, his “pillar of safety” in (drag) mother Jessica Mélançon and father-of-the-year Coriander Golden.

To see a family so in-tune with their child’s inner superstar is something very special, we must take note. I was lucky enough to have a chance to speak with the up-and-coming drag star’s parents, and the love I felt in their words about Nemis and Lactatia is overwhelming!

When Nemis is out of character he identifies as a boy and in drag as a girl. Drag for Nemis, is about the performance, the character. When he’s Lactatia, becoming her character, he’s a girl with a penis. As far as gender roles go, we’ve gifted both of our children with the ideal that there’s nothing just for girls and nothing just for boys. He grew up wearing his sisters hand me down princess costumes and fancy shoes while playing with monster trucks and riding a skateboard.

I think his biggest milestone in life or a pivotal moment was when he told us that when he grew up if he wanted to, he could be a girl with a penis (He was three and going through a pretty intense Beyonce phase)

Did we know it would lead to him being passionate about becoming the greatest drag queen the world has ever seen? No, but we were one hundred percent certain that Nemis was a natural performer, had the ability to captivate a crowd and was the most self-aware person we knew.

Obviously, we’re not like most moms and dads. Instead of Saturday morning soccer practice, we have Vogue classes. When we go clothes shopping it’s equal parts black skinny jeans and skulls as it is sequins and tulle. We talk ollies, grinding and dropping in- he’s pretty dedicated to his skateboard, just as much as contouring and tuck tape!

And as far as sexuality and drag go, Nemis understands that a majority of Queens are gay. It’s something we’ve talked a lot about at length because he expressed his concern that people wouldn’t think he was a” real “drag queen or take him seriously because he doesn’t feel like he’s gay.

Maybe he will in the future? Who knows. Luckily for him, he has his whole life to figure out that aspect of himself, but for the time being, he’s content to find heels in his size and own his shit!

He is unapologetic and an amazing individual.

We are huge allies in this scene. At the end of the day, I’m hoping that Nemis inspires more parents to be unconditionally accepting of their children and inspires more kids to embrace themselves completely! – Jessica Mélançon and Coriander Golden

Lactatia was the undeniable star of Montreal’s Werq The World Tour date. Immediately a fan favourite, many in the audience jumped at the opportunity to take selfies with Lactatia and share their support for Lactatia, a top contender for the next Drag Superstar of the World.

Best Kept MTL jumped in on that trend and got a selfie with the star of the night too!

Lactatia defines what it means to be Best Kept MTL, we are honored to share his story, and can not wait to see what the world has in store for you!

Whose fault will it be when this poor child commits suicide because he was pressured into castrating himself by his mentally ill parents and degenerates like the author of this article?

Common sense – funny user tag seeing as you clearly have none.
Who are you to call anyone a degenerate when writing about the freedom of expression through art at any age. Maybe you’re mad that you were stiffled as a child. Maybe you’re just horribly ignorant and unaccepting of views other than your own.
maybe you’re just looking for an outlet to push your slander and disrespect(annonymously, I should add)
Whatever the reason for this type of nonsense comment, I send you an outpour of love from myself, and Best Kept MTL alike.

Riley, you are a complete ignorant motherfucker and any person that condones this is sick! 8 years old and you think this is ok? This kind of shit will set you cause back indefinitely as it should!!!

Right wing Christian extremists call it child abuse – funny how the “issue” of sexualizing a child is only coming from the Christian masses. No one else, but yourselves, sees a sexualization in this. Bye girl, bye.

Of course no one sees this as sexual. Because it is never sexual until it becomes sexual…. Dressing up at home in your sisters clothes and submerging yourself in a lifestyle of never ending parades, performances, and parties is two very different things…. When he is much older he will probably write a book and then he will disclose what all really went on… Just like every other child put in the spotlight….

    • Foxylee says:

So what, if he was a ballet dancer in sexy tights in the same spot light no one would say anything. Never ending parades? Like the 1 gay pride parade most cities have yearly lol, uhm ok. Who says all drag queens party? Drag is performance art, like hmm theatre, modern dance, circus performance. I know a drag queen who never drinks and goes to bed at 10 and is pretty much a book worm… Maybe it makes you uncomfortable because it appeals to gay men mostly, for obvious reasons that they are often either more effeminate or in touch with their feminine. Also lots of things may or may not happen to a child. Simply having them in the spot light is ZERO indication that something is bound to go horribly wrong like sex predators or them getting into drugs and alcohol. Of course it happens but it can happen anyways. It can happen because your parents DIDN’T put you there also.
