Without stating the obvious aka this year’s headliners… here’s a take on the TOP electronic artists performing at Coachella 2014. Having been there last year I can assure you that the valley music and arts festival in Indio and its 90,000 attendance leaves the desert feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and yet exhilarated, with significant moments etched into the spectators minds. With all due respect it’s time to showcase this year’s TOP 5 acts on the bill:

- Montreal’s Electro-funk duo Chromeo formed in the early 21st century, a project of once upon a time hip-hop producers Dave One and Pee Thug. Dave on guitars and vocals; Pee the talk box-wielding synth specialist. From the beginning, Chromeo made it clear that the name of their well-dressed game would be artful detachment, earnest songwriting, retro breakdowns, and gleaming plastic beats – not serious intent or aggressive musical-regime change. In these uncertain times of financial upheaval and musical mediocrity, Chromeo’s latest album ‘Business Casual’ is a testament to the fact that inspirational funk shall always prevail. Vive le Chromeo!

- The Glitch Mob – the Los Angeles-based trio comprising Justin Boreta, Ed Ma, and Joshua Mayer – continues their forward movement into 2014 with their new album “Love Death Immortality.” Boreta, edIT, and Ooah came together around 2006, passing through various members until settling on this core trio of musicians. Together, they combined their different skills and aesthetics into the compellingly collaged whole that has become one of the most beloved live electronic acts, and distinctive recording artists, working today.

- Los Angeles native Deorro has become one of the most sought after young producer/DJs in the business. The young house prodigy has amassed an awe inspiring discography including a cache of original productions, collaborations/remixes with Steve Aoki, Chuckie, Axwell, Cazzette, Krewella, Laidback Luke, Carnage, Diplo, MakJ, Tommie Sunshine, & R3hab and more originals than even the most devoted DJs could spin in a week.

- Brooklyn-based band Holy Ghost! are Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser, who formed the band in 2007. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2011 following their steady rise to fame as a blogosphere buzz band with the release of first two singles “Hold On” and “I Will Come Back,” including various remixes for the likes of Moby, Cut Copy, and MGMT. The band’s sophomore effort, Dynamics, is out now on DFA Records.

- One of the world’s most universally respected DJ duos, L.A. natives and childhood best friends Classixx have headlined everywhere from the famed Paris Social Club to New York’s Webster Hall, touring constantly since the release of their exuberant 2009 single “I’ll Get You,” which featured Lady Gaga songwriter Jeppe. Following their breakout single with acclaimed remixes for Phoenix, Holy Ghost, Mayer Hawthorne, Groove Armada, Yacht, Major Lazer, Gossip and others, for the last two years Classixx have been intent on their debut Hanging Gardens, whittling the LP down from hundreds of sessions to a svelte 12 songs.
